Over the weekend we had what might be considered the first heavy spring rain (even though it’s not officially spring yet, indeed it would be more accurate to say it was the worst storm we had all winter). And what an excessive amount of rain we got!

Since the rain gauge isn’t out yet, I have no idea how much it rained, but my guess is between 2 1/2 to 3 inches.* The storm began on Friday night and continued through Saturday and overnight into Sunday morning.
As usual, the creek which crosses our property near the road overflowed its banks, and Toby had a good time checking out all that water this morning.

“And so it goes, for about two months. One day it’s early spring, then we’re back to late winter. The only constant is mud, so mud season it is.”
*PS: According to the local paper, we had a little more than 56mm of rain over the weekend, which translates to 2.2 inches. The rainfall amount broke a March record.
Curious Toby - what's floating in there?

Hello, I just found your blog and I am enjoying looking through your posts. I’ll be back!
We have had lots of rain the past couple of days too, and then this morning it even turned to wet snow!!!
Welcome, Linda. Great to meet you. And welcome back Crafty Gardener. Same here: last night the rain turned into sleet for awhile, thankfully though, not into freezing rain. It was slushy on the ground, but that was all gone by morning.
Very windy here and steady rain for a couple of days. Yes, mud season indeed and like you with a big dog allowed in the house – it becomes very messy at times.
But – at least for now – the snow is gone.

Messy is it. A good thing we have Canada Blooms to look forward to this week!
We were supposed to get all that rain, and somehow we didn’t. Just as well. Our metropolitan area is clustered around the Susquehanna River, and major flooding in 2006 still has a lot of people very nervous whenever “flood warning” creeps into the weather forecast. I can attest, it is still very muddy here.
