Record hot day – and it’s still May

hot temperaturesI don’t love the heat, especially not when it arrives this early in the season.

Temperatures in Hamilton today broke a record high, climbing to 29.8 degrees Celsius in the late afternoon, with a humidex of 35 (that’s 95 degrees F). The last record high for this date was 29.4 degrees in 1965.

While it was hot, humidity and smog were not severe, according to Environment Canada senior climatologist Dave Phillips. Apparently, this is the kind of weather we’re going to see a lot more this summer. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.

In the garden: Big container planting day: We put up the portable gazebo for shade, brought out a plywood potting table, and used the tractor loader bucket to mix and moisten the bales of potting soil. By mid afternoon we had all the annuals into their pots. Now that they are out of their dinky nursery pots, they will be able to better weather the heat.

That’s hot Yvonne. I know the north has had it’s moments this year so far. You’ve been hotter than us on many days. It’s been cooler than average here. Our time is coming!

Are you used to the heat yet, moving to the south from the north?
