Oh-my, how the weather has turned! Not so long ago I was fretting about too much heat and not enough rain. This week has changed that in a big way: it has rained five times and we’ve had a little more than 5 inches in total. As I write this on Sunday morning, the temperature is only 12°C (53°F).
This is quite a change from the dry spring that that our plants suffered through up to this week. Last week at this time, I was fretting that the cistern from which I water my plants was almost empty. Now it’s filled to overflowing. Southwestern Ontario is seeing high levels of rainfall, while to the north and east many regions are experiencing record dryness.
This morning we had our usual flooding down by the creek which runs through a front corner of our property. When I took these pictures it was still raining.
This season the weather seems more unpredictable than usual — indeed, this could be the last wet period of the summer, or it could be the beginning of normal precipitation, or we could have more of the same: hot and dry followed by incredibly wet. So it goes…
